Counselling for Trauma
“Trauma is not just an event that took place sometime in the past; it is also the imprint left by that experience on mind, brain, and body.”-Bessel van der Kolk
Almost everyone can say they’ve experienced trauma at some point. However, the lasting effects of traumatic events have significant consequences for some.
Symptoms of trauma can look like:
- Avoiding specific locations, sights, situations, and sounds that serve as reminders of the event.
- Anxiety, depression, numbness, or guilt.
- Intrusive thoughts, nightmares or flashbacks.
- Anger, irritability, and hypervigilance.
- Aggressive/impulsive behaviour.
- Self-harm.
- Sleep disturbances.
- Difficulty remembering details of the distressing event.
- Change in habits or behavior since the trauma.
- Loss of interest in activities that were once considered enjoyable.
If you’re someone who resonates with the symptoms of trauma listed above, I may be able to help. I invite you to contact me today for a free consultation.
