I’m a Registered Professional Counsellor Candidate (RPC-C) with the Canadian Professional Counselling Association. I hold a diploma with high honours in counselling skills and human services. I'm presently working at an addictions treatment centre and have gained a plethora of knowledge about abstinence-based recovery. I also support people with a harm reduction model. I believe there’s merit in both methods and am dedicated to counselling with whatever modality feels best for each person.
My journey in the helping field began in England. At 18, I volunteered at a residential therapeutic school, housing children and youth who’d experienced early childhood trauma. Since then, I’ve been passionate about dismantling oppressive systems and supporting people experiencing marginalisation. I’ve worked with various organizations in Kjipuktuk (Halifax), such as Stepping Stone, The YWCA, Adsum for Women and Children and Coverdale Courtwork Society. These organizations serve women, trans and non-binary individuals experiencing trauma, houselessness, addiction, mental health challenges, sex trafficking, incarceration and abuse.
In addition to my work in human services, I was privileged to have worked and traveled worldwide. I attribute some of my ability to connect and relate to people to my eclectic experiences. From pumping gas to working in the airline industry! I’ve nannied, facilitated art programs, worked in American summer camps, spent over 10 years in the service industry and cooked for as many as 90 tree planters in bush camps throughout Canada. The commonality was my love for connecting by simply conversing and, of course, humour!
I believe in the power of listening and the healing properties of feeling seen, heard, and embraced. I’m committed to creating safe spaces free of shame & judgement. I’m dedicated to using inclusive language and practices and proudly identify as queer.
